Depending on your desktop wall paper,
changing this setting can improve the visibility of your desktop icon labels.
Go to control Panel > System, > Advanced > Performance area > Settings button.
Under Visual Effects tab, check or uncheck "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the Desktop". The list of Visual Effects options is in alphabetical order.
